Kiri Te Kanawa Village offers living choices to suit everyone, so residents can live the way they want and blaze their own trails. Our apartments and townhouses are light and spacious, with clean lines and a clever open plan design layout that provides an easy flow throughout.
If down the track you need more support, we offer assisted-living apartments and a range of care options. That freedom and flexibility is empowering for residents and knowing care can be dialled up as needed means, quite simply, ‘no worries’. It's all part of what we like to call the Ryman Difference.
Our pioneering approach to retirement living includes resident-friendly terms designed to protect you and your family. Our base weekly fee is fixed for the entire time you occupy your apartment or townhouse*, and our deferred management fee is capped at 20 percent – one of the lowest in the retirement sector.
These are just some of the ways we’re pioneering a new way of living for a new retirement generation.
*Some conditions apply.
Community is central to the lifestyle so we offer amenities that encourage that sense of togetherness, such as a dining room, bar, hair and beauty salon, movie theatre and shop.

Care is not an ‘add on’ at a Ryman village, it is built into the fabric of our villages from the very beginning. It’s comforting for couples and friends to know they can still be near each other even if their health needs are different.
Kiri Te Kanawa care centre offers a range of care options including resthome, hospital and specialist dementia care. Like all aspects of our villages, we constantly look for ways to improve both the care we provide and the innovation behind it. Care is customised using our myRyman care app and residents love the food in our seasonal Delicious menu, which is prepared fresh on site by village chefs.
Kiri Te Kanawa is one of over 91 percent of Ryman villages that have been awarded 4-year certification by the Ministry of Health. It’s recognised as the ‘gold star’ standard in care.

That’s why each Ryman village is named after a Kiwi or Aussie trailblazer. Anthony Wilding, Lady Diana Isaac, Evelyn Page to name a few. They lived with passion and purpose, they pushed further, they went beyond the ordinary. That’s exactly what we strive to do every day at Ryman. To pioneer a new way of living, for a new retirement generation.
A celebrity in the international music world, New Zealand opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa achieved a remarkable number of accolades throughout her career.
Ambitious and determined, Te Kanawa won a grant to study in London early in her career. While there she enrolled in the London Opera Centre. She went on to regularly perform on stage where she was known for captivating audiences. Her recording of the “Nuns’ Chorus” from the Strauss operetta Casanova was the first gold record produced in New Zealand.
In 1973, Dame Kiri was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her services to music. Committed to the future of opera and passionate about fostering music in Aotearoa, she founded the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation with the vision “that talented young New Zealand singers and musicians with complete dedication to their art may receive judicious and thoughtful mentoring and support to assist them in realising their dreams”.
Now retired, Dame Kiri’s final performance took place in Ballarat, Australia in 2016. To discover more about her exceptional achievements, read David Fingleton’s Kiri Te Kanawa: A Biography.
