INDEPENDENCE WITH SUPPORT

Serviced apartments come with support that makes life easier, like housekeeping and a chef-prepared meal every day. It’s great for you, and reassuring for your family, because they know you’re being looked after. Best of all, that extra support creates more time for fun!

Apartments are in the heart of the village, with easy access to everything the village has to offer. Your balcony or patio is a great place to while away the evening with a good book or to watch the daily activities of the village community. It’s also the perfect spot to grow herbs and display colourful pot plants.

The feeling of togetherness is the real icing on the cake for assisted-living residents. This is enhanced by a variety of outings, regular transport options and endless opportunities to join in with activities when you feel like it. It’s a fulfilled lifestyle, it’s an assisted living lifestyle.

Please note, the design and layout of apartments will vary between villages.

We can help you find the mix of living and care options that suits you. That's the beauty of assisted-living apartments.

Ryman assisted living apartments, also known as serviced apartments, are specially designed for people who want to remain independent while receiving a little extra support with daily tasks. Examples of the type of support available are meals, housekeeping, and help with personal care.

Serviced apartments typically range from studio layouts to one or two bedrooms and include an ensuite and kitchenette. They’re located in the centre of the village, making it easy to access village amenities and social activities.

At Ryman, assisted living means support tailored to your needs. Our serviced apartments come with a range of assisted living services designed to make life easier and more enjoyable.

Some of the support services available include:

  • Daily chef-prepared meals served in the village dining room
  • Housekeeping and laundry services
  • Personal care assistance (e.g. help with dressing or medication)
  • 24/7 emergency call system
  • Access to village amenities and activity programmes
  • Transport options for outings and appointments

There are several tiers of support to choose from, depending on your needs and preferences.

The cost of an assisted living / serviced apartment in New Zealand varies depending on location, apartment size, the level of support required, and desirable features such as north-facing, or with a lovely view.

Ryman have transparent pricing, so you will always know exactly what you’re paying for.

Typically, the costs are:

  • An entry payment for the right to occupy the apartment
  • A weekly fee covering services like meals, housekeeping, and village amenities
  • A deferred management fee (DMF) – this is your contribution to the ongoing costs of running the village, which is deducted when you leave

To find the cost of a serviced apartment near you, simply visit our Find a Village page. Filter by your area and click on the village you’re interested in. If apartments are available for sale, they’ll be listed along with their price.

The key difference lies in the level of support and independence.

  • Assisted living apartments are ideal for those who are mostly independent but appreciate help with daily tasks like meals, cleaning, and personal care. You live in your own apartment and enjoy access to village life and amenities.
  • Residential aged care (also known as rest home or hospital-level care) is for those who can no longer live independently and need long-term support. This may include help with mobility, medication management, and complex health needs, in addition to all meals. Residential aged care is provided in a dedicated care centre with professional care and assistance available 24/7.

Recognising when a loved one may need to transition into assisted living or residential aged care can initially be difficult, but it is often the best solution for the person needing help. Here are some common signs to watch out for:

  • Changes in personal hygiene or grooming
  • Difficulty managing medications or appointments
  • Unexplained bruises or frequent falls
  • Neglected household tasks or unpaid bills
  • Social withdrawal or mood changes
  • Weight loss or poor nutrition
  • Memory loss that impacts daily life

If you’re noticing several of these signs, it may be time to explore assisted living options. At Ryman, we’re here to help you navigate this journey with compassion and care.
