Respite Care

Respite care, also known as short-term care, is a retirement living option for those who live independently but require care assistance for a short period of time. At Ryman Healthcare villages the levels of care available are resthome, hospital and in most villages specialist dementia care.

Circumstances vary as to why respite care is needed. Families of loved ones could be planning a holiday, or the main care giver may need a break. Or you could require temporary support to recover after an illness or operation.

Whatever the circumstance, respite care provides care for as long as you need, whether it’s for a single night or for a few weeks.

It’s a great way for you to gain first-hand experience of a retirement village lifestyle. Where you can enjoy the various entertainment and the warmth and kindness of the village community. All whilst receiving the care you need.

“The team showed love, care, dignity and respect, not only to Mum, but to every other resident that I saw in their care.”

At Ryman villages you only have to walk into one of the village dining rooms to experience how residents connect through a shared dining experience. Weary Dunlop Head Chef Lawrence Manohara-Seelan who regularly mingles with residents as they dine, sees this every day.

“You can see the connections as friendships develop and grow at the different tables, and you understand that it’s not just about eating – it’s a social experience” he says.

To further enhance the respite care experience, care is individualised to suit your needs. Our electronic care programme, myRyman Care, provides detailed information about each resident, right there in your care room. Which greatly benefits respite residents as it enables care staff to get to know your needs and preferences sooner.

We also offer a quality day care programme if you would like to enjoy meals and activities with other residents during the day.

Ultimately respite care is another way that Ryman provide care to suit your needs. So as health needs change you will have access to living options that work best for you and your family.
