Personalised care and support at end of life

At Ryman, we understand that the final stages of life are deeply personal. Our palliative care approach focuses on ensuring comfort, dignity, and quality of life, while supporting residents and their families with compassion, understanding, and expert clinical care.

We provide personalised care that respects each person's wishes, values, cultural needs, and individual preferences, helping them feel safe, comfortable, and supported, and our care communities provide a welcoming and peaceful environment.

What is palliative care?

Palliative care supports people living with a life-limiting illness or condition. It focuses on quality of life by managing pain and other symptoms and responding to physical, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual needs. Depending on the person’s circumstances, palliative care may be provided alongside other treatment.
Our team works alongside residents, families and whānau, healthcare professionals, and specialists to provide coordinated care that supports both comfort and wellbeing. To speak to a Ryman Care Specialist, call 0800 588 222 for more information.

Compassionate, expert care and support

Our care team provides compassionate, around-the-clock care and support, including:

    • Pain and symptom management to maximise comfort and wellbeing
    • 24-hour clinical care and monitoring
    • Emotional and psychological support
    • Spiritual and cultural care that respects individual beliefs and values
    • Coordination with GPs, specialists, and other healthcare providers
    • Ongoing communication and care planning with residents and families.

By combining clinical expertise and compassionate care, we provide reassurance, comfort, dignity, and peace of mind.

Personalised care plans

Every resident's needs are unique. We develop individualised care plans that reflect individual wishes, preferences, cultural considerations, and clinical requirements. Our approach follows the Health New Zealand Palliative Care National Framework and ensures care remains centred on what matters most to each resident.

As needs change, care plans are reviewed regularly to ensure the right level of support is provided at every stage.

Supporting families and loved ones

When a loved one is receiving palliative care, support for family is equally important.

Our team works alongside families and loved ones, providing guidance, practical assistance, compassionate communication, and emotional support throughout the journey. We take the time to listen, answer questions, and ensure families feel informed, supported, and confident in their loved one's care.
