Possum Bourne Village offers living choices to suit everyone, so residents can live the way they want and blaze their own trails. Our apartments and townhouses are light and spacious, with clean lines and a clever open plan design layout that provides an easy flow throughout.
If down the track you need more support, we offer assisted-living apartments and a range of care options. That freedom and flexibility is empowering for residents and knowing care can be dialled up as needed means, quite simply, ‘no worries’. It's all part of what we like to call the Ryman Difference.
Our pioneering approach to retirement living includes resident-friendly terms designed to protect you and your family. Our base weekly fee is fixed for the entire time you occupy your apartment or townhouse*, and our deferred management fee is capped at 20 percent – one of the lowest in the retirement sector.
These are just some of the ways we’re pioneering a new way of living for a new retirement generation.
*Some conditions apply.
Community is central to the lifestyle so we offer amenities that encourage that sense of togetherness, such as a café, dining room, bar, hair and beauty salon, and shop.
Retirement is a great time to sharpen your skills on the passions and pastimes that you love. Spend time enjoying the workshop, craft room, pool table, and library.
Incorporate regular activity into your everyday routine or enjoy the camaraderie of a little game time. Amenities include a swimming pool, spa pool, gym and bowling green.
Care is not an ‘add on’ at a Ryman village, it is built into the fabric of our villages from the very beginning. It’s comforting for couples and friends to know they can still be near each other even if their health needs are different.
Possum Bourne care centre offers a range of care options including resthome, hospital and specialist dementia care. Like all aspects of our villages, we constantly look for ways to improve both the care we provide and the innovation behind it. Care is customised using our myRyman care app and residents love the food in our seasonal Delicious menu, which is prepared fresh on site by village chefs.
Possum Bourne is one of over 91 percent of Ryman villages that have been awarded 4-year certification by the Ministry of Health. It’s recognised as the ‘gold star’ standard in care.
If you would like more information our village manager will be happy to help.

Filled with local history, the Pioneer Cottage located close to the village gives insight into the early settlers living style.
A short drive away is the popular raceway that carters to both horse racing lovers and motor sport enthusiasts.
Located around the corner from the village is this great brunch spot on the main street of Pukekohe.
That’s why each Ryman village is named after a Kiwi or Aussie trailblazer. Anthony Wilding, Lady Diana Isaac, Evelyn Page to name a few. They lived with passion and purpose, they pushed further, they went beyond the ordinary. That’s exactly what we strive to do every day at Ryman. To pioneer a new way of living, for a new retirement generation.
A legend in New Zealand motorsport history, Peter Raymond George "Possum" Bourne is considered New Zealand’s rally hero. Born in 1956, Bourne took a liking to anything with wheels from a young age.
The nickname “Possum” was given to the motorist as a youngster after an incident where he swerved and crashed his mother’s car to avoid hitting a possum on the road. Bourne’s passion for cars evolved after leaving school at the age of 15 to commence an apprenticeship as a mechanic. His ascent into motorsport, specifically rally car driving, was a natural progression after co-driving with a friend.
The risky nature of Bourne’s career combined with his down-to-earth personality resulted in a successful mix. Possum Bourne Motorsport was founded in the 80’s and rallying became his full-time occupation. His level-headedness helped the skilled driver maintain his sharp mental edge amid the high-stress motorsport environment. He quickly became a well-known name in rally car racing across New Zealand and Australia.
Bourne won the Asia-Pacific and Australian Rally Championships multiple times – a feat that no other New Zealand driver has managed. His record number of awards and accolades remains unrivalled in New Zealand motorsport history. Since his untimely death, Possum Bourne remains an icon of the motorsport industry and is remembered not only for his flair on the track but also for his infectious and endearing personality.
The autobiography Bourne to Rally was finished merely days before the driver passed away in a crash in Cardrona, Central Otago. The book brilliantly recounts the trials and tribulations faced by Bourne throughout his impressive life.
