No winter drink list is complete without a classic hot chocolate. Indulgent, comforting, and nostalgic, a classic hot chocolate can warm hands and hearts during long winter evenings. It’s a hot drink for all ages to enjoy and a fun cold-weather tradition to pass down generations.
Ingredients
1 cup milk
¼ tsp vanilla extract (or essence)
3 tsp cocoa
2 tbsp granulated sugar (alternative: try honey)
Salt, pinch
Method
Combine the cocoa, sugar, and salt in a mixing jug. Set aside. If you choose to add ground spices like cinnamon or chilli, add them now.
In a separate microwave-safe jug, heat the milk for 1½ minutes on high or until hot. Alternatively, gently heat the milk in a pot on the stove, stirring regularly.
Once the milk is hot, gradually pour it over the dry cocoa mixture while stirring until well blended. You could also use a stick blender to ensure the mixture is thoroughly combined while aerating the mix for a frothy treat.
Once you’ve satisfied those hot chocolate cravings, try a traditional hot chocolate with a twist! A pinch of chilli or cinnamon can add an exciting new flavour. Or if you’re after something extra special, a splash of a liqueur can be just the thing to take your hot chocolate to the next level.
