Podcast #10 - Closing the Age Divide

Written by Kylie Williams
on May 23, 2020

Dr Doug and Dave query why there’s a lack of understanding between older people and younger people.

The common ground seems far and few between because they’re dealing with vastly different realities – as Dr Doug says, “the numbers don’t work out”.

Younger people are looking down the barrel of extremely high costs for supporting older generations through retirement and healthcare, which is compounded by a lack of inflation and subsequent lack of capital growth, an unreliable job market, a lack of pensions, relatively lower incomes, and the list goes on.

On the other hand, older people are struggling with the lack of a nationwide approach and adequate funding for managing ageing.

All while living in a world driven by technology, which no longer makes sense to them.

But it’s not all doom and gloom – Dr Doug and Dave discuss how we can all move forward together.
