Ryman Healthcare has taken the top award in the Aged Advisor People’s Choice awards for the second year running.

The awards, run by agedadvisor.co.nz, are based on the best results across 4,100 reviews at 620 aged care facilities and retirement villages around New Zealand.

The agedadvisor.co.nz winners are based on independent reviews and opinions from people who live, visit or work at aged care facilities and retirement villages.

Ryman’s 34 villages in New Zealand achieved a 92% rating from 627 reviews, making Ryman the best overall provider in the country for the second year running.

Three Ryman villages – Shona McFarlane in Lower Hutt, Kiri Te Kanawa in Gisborne and Diana Isaac in Christchurch were finalists in the awards.

Karen Lake, Clinical and Quality Manager for Ryman’s operations team, said it was pleasing to achieve consistently high marks across so many reviews.

“We’re lucky to have a team of more than 5,000 people dedicated to kindness and care. Looking after people takes a lot of hard work and collaboration every day. Winning the award two years in a row shows that we are hitting the mark, and we have a whole lot of innovations and improvements on the way which we think will help us get even better.

“The reviews show that our residents and their families place a whole lot of trust in us, we and we never take this for granted.’’

Reviewers provided a range of feedback, with the most consistent praise for the team at each village and the care they provided.

Karen said her favourite review of the year came from a resident at Kiri Te Kanawa village in Gisborne who wrote: “I feel like I am on holiday with my own furniture. So much to do if you want to. I love it here.’’

Earlier this year Ryman was named the Most Trusted Brand in the Aged Care and Retirement Villages category in a Readers’ Digest survey of New Zealanders.

It was the fifth time Ryman had been named Most Trusted Brand.

Ryman’s villages are regularly audited to ensure they meet Ministry of Health guidelines, and more than 80% have achieved four-year certification, which is regarded as the gold standard in the industry.
