Ryman Healthcare’s Jane Mander Retirement Village has been announced as a finalist in the Bidfood Excellence in Food Award for Care Homes and Hospitals.

The award recognises exceptional efforts by members of the New Zealand Aged Care Association (NZACA) to enhance the excellence of food service they deliver to residents.

And it was the glowing testimonials from their residents, along with their spectacular food selection, that prompted the team at Jane Mander, lead by Senior Lead Chef Timothy Garlick, to be selected..

“It was fantastic for our team to be nominated, we put a lot of extra time and effort into making the dining experience here special so I'm very grateful that all the team can receive recognition for that, said Timothy.

This is the first year that Ryman has entered the awards.

Timothy says the team is committed to improving the life of Jane Mander residents through their food.

“We aim to ensure our food is served attractively, and in pleasant and relaxed surroundings which helps to enhance the feeling of wellbeing, comfort, and quality of life for our residents.

“Their favourite meals are always the roasts, fish & chips as well as classic desserts like trifle and Eton Mess. However, the menu is constantly exposing the residents to new dishes which they enjoy greatly.”

Bidfood said consideration for the award will be given to taste, what is served, the environment, setting, delivery and presentation.

Resident Services Quality Manager Andrew Gibson wrote in his submission for the village, that the team there do everything they can to help make food service better for residents – by treating them like their own parents.

“The staff at Jane Mander uphold the Ryman value that everything has to be good enough for mum and dad and we believe that this ethos has been reflected in the great food survey results that we consistently obtain – and the clean plates we get back,” said Gibson.

Winners will be announced during the Conference Gala Dinner on Wednesday, 2 March 2022.
