This week people all over the country are getting involved with NZTech’s Techweek, which aims to advance the growth of tech in New Zealand.

Here at Ryman, we are a big believer that a full life is one that gets richer with age and that includes the wide range of tech offerings we have for residents. We’ve highlighted some of these below.

myRyman resident app

Most independent residents across New Zealand now use the myRyman resident app. It allows them to manage their busy village lifestyle right in the palm of their hands. They can stay up to date with village news and events, as well as create their own schedules and book exclusive Ryman events and activities.

The app was designed specifically for older adults, including those with cognitive decline and vision impairment, following extensive interviews and user-testing with Ryman residents.

It took home ‘The Digital Design Apps and Software Green Tick Award’ at the Australian Good Design Awards in 2023 and was named ‘Innovation of the Year - Technology Social Engagement’ at the 2024 Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation awards.

The Saffron food services platform

There’s nothing like a good meal and nobody knows that better than our amazing kitchen teams. The resident dining experience has been improved with the recent introduction of the Saffron hospitality platform. With Saffron, care staff take meal orders on tablets, providing residents with meal photographs and ingredient details.

It allows our chefs and kitchen staff to access detailed dietary profiles, including allergies, nutritional requirements, and personal preferences. This allows us to provide a varied and delicious menu that caters to different nutritional needs and food preferences.

Cheyne Chalmers, Chief Executive Officer NZ said: “Saffron is a win-win. It’s helping us to further enhance the resident dining experience while streamlining operations for village staff and delivering overall business efficiencies.”

MyRyman Care

On the care side, we have the innovative myRyman Care app. This custom-made care app, located on devices in our care centers, allows our care teams to record daily tasks at a resident’s bedside.

Through the app, teams can access and update clinical data more efficiently and spend more time with residents. Our clinical team members describe myRyman Care as ‘magic’ and it has made a once-in-a-generation improvement to the way we deliver care.

In 2019, myRyman Care was named ‘Innovation of the Year – Care Model’ at the Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards. The award recognises the best care model that improves the quality of life for older people.

At Ryman we’re proud of the tech we have available for our residents and the opportunities it gives them to stay connected and live well.
