To celebrate Suffrage Day, Age Concern and Southern District Police invited residents from the village to a morning tea. Serviced apartment residents Honor McKellar and Elizabeth Cargo were excited to be given a ride in a police car for the first time.
Suffrage Day attracted events around the country, and discussion amongst many including village staff, visitors and residents.
In 1893, New Zealand became the first nation in the world to grant women the right to vote. So Suffrage Day is celebratory and significant.
