Ryman Healthcare Plans $90m Retirement Village for Christchurch

Listed retirement village operator Ryman Healthcare today announced that  their 23rd retirement village will be in Christchurch.

"We are delighted to have secured a site so close to the established  suburbs of St Albans and Shirley, and to be able to offer the elderly people  of the area a first class choice in their retirement," Ryman chief executive  Simon Challies said today.

The 11 hectare site for the village is on East Ellington Drive, close to  the Palms Shopping Centre and within 4 kms of the city centre. On completion  the village will be home to over 450 residents, and employ more than 150  staff.

"We are very pleased to be making another substantial investment in our  home town, and to be able to give a much needed boost to the local building  industry."

Ryman plans to develop a fully integrated retirement village, comprising  independent townhouses, serviced apartments, a village centre, a resthome,  hospital and dementia care facilities.

The village centre will feature a range of resort style facilities not  currently available in Northeast Christchurch - an indoor heated swimming  pool and spa, an all weather bowling green, movie theatre, hair and beauty salons, library, gym and a grand internal atrium.

The company currently operates 21 villages nationwide, offering a combination of both retirement living and resthome care. The villages are  all designed, built and operated by Ryman.

Ryman recently opened villages in Whangarei and Orewa, and plans to open new villages in Gisborne, Dunedin and now Christchurch. The company is  actively seeking sites for new retirement villages.

Ryman is a six times winner of Best Retirement Village in New Zealand,  serves over 4,500 New Zealanders and employs over 2,000 staff.
