Jane Mander Retirement Village Diamond Wedding Celebrations

Murray and Beryl shared their 60th wedding anniversary recently with family, friends and guests at Jane Mander Retirement Village at a special morning tea.

Beryl Keen and Murray Stewart met when they both worked at the Farmers Trading Company in Whangarei. They got to know one another at work, but the romance really blossomed when they were bridesmaid and groomsman at a friends wedding.

They married in Ohaewai and over the ensuing years had two children (Ron and Eileen). Murray and Beryl shifted around for nearly ten years, owning several grocery stores during that period. They eventually settled on a farm in the Ngunguru area, east of Whangarei where they farmed in the district for the following fifty years.

In May 2009 Beryl was the very first resident who moved into a townhouse at the brand new Jane Mander Retirement Village. Murray then moved into the hospital wing when it opened and Beryl now visits Murray every day. They still have a lovely relationship, and Beryl says that is because they have always looked after one another.
