On Whanganui Heritage weekend, held to coincide and celebrate Wellington Anniversary Weekend, eleven rest home residents went for a van ride to watch a steam train go to Kai Iwi from central Whanganui.
We waited and waited, and eventually it arrived at the appointed vantage point. We were positioned in the shade, so that we could feel the vibration of the train passing.
Then to our delight it stopped just down the line. The residents were excited when it was suggested we follow the train for another look. She puffed and steamed away giving them all a spectacular display of steam train times-past.
