On 14 March in Whanganui we celebrated the reopening of the chapel, and invited everyone in Whanganui associated with the chapel to join us. It became apparent pretty quickly that the chapel holds special significance to more than just us and the residents.
We held our breath as almost 400 people arrived to celebrate the occasion! Luckily there were enough seats.
Everyone was delighted that we had saved the chapel, and were impressed with the renovations.
It took 10 months for Ryman to earthquake strengthen the chapel from almost no rating to the point where, as village manager Victoria put it, it is quite possibly Whanganui's safest building!
