On a bright sunny Thursday morning, we left for an adventure to New Plymouth.
After having a refreshment stop at Foxton, we had lunch at the Lifferton Castle Restaurant. Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet meal before visiting Jane Winstone, another Ryman Healthcare village, for a tour of their premises, including their beautiful chapel. We found our way to the Quality Inn at New Plymouth and then had fish and chips at the Port. It was a lovely still evening.
On Friday we spent the day visiting parks. We had our picnic lunch at Mt Egmont summit. That night we had “party night” at the Quality Inn and played our traditional “gift” games.
Everyone had a great time and it drew the attention of other guests at the restaurant wanting to join our village as they wanted to join in the fun.
Saturday was our bus driver’s day off sowe all did our own thing. Many discovered New Plymouth’s great museum. Saturday night we caught taxi vans to the Sun World Restaurant; and some of our friends who live in the city joined us.
We met every morning in the hotel restaurant at 8am to have our breakfast and catch up on the day’s events.
After our own church services in one of the resident’s hotel rooms on Sunday morning, we headed back to Wellington reluctantly, as we had so much more to see that we could not fit in.
On the way home, we visited Tawhiti Museum, which our residents really enjoyed. A picnic lunch was at the exquisite “Bushy Park”. The sun came out and it was so beautiful overlooking the estate. We also took a detour to Kai-Iwi Beach, which was very beautiful.
Our last port of call was Fisherman’s Table restaurant at Paekakariki and everyone is now discussing where they would like to go next year as they enjoyed the trip so much.
