Ryman Horseracing Competition

The Ryman Horse Racing Competition was held at Shona McFarlane on Friday 20 May. It was a joint event for the Sunflower and Tulip residents. The coordinators did a great job making this event exciting and fun.

Pizzas were ordered and sausage rolls were prepared by the kitchen staff for the residents to enjoy. The afternoon started with an indoor picnic and the big screen was set up for everyone to watch the “Wizard of Oz” movie.

Before the race, we had conducted a sing along for all residents to join in and sing ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’. They all sung together with the help of our very own Karen on piano.

The horse racing kicked off at 3.30pm. Contestants from both sides of the care centre were given a wooden horse in which they painted and numbered themselves. The game was divided into two groups of six contestants. The first three winners from each group competed with each other for the championship. Two of the tulip residents won the gold cup! The residents left the venue very happy and some were even requesting another race in the next few months.
