Carrots all the go for Ohakune Day

On the first Wednesday of each month we celebrate a NZ place or town. In early June we celebrated Ohakune Day.

Ohakune is situated in the national park region and has over the years become very famous for its ability to grow great carrots. Many tourists stop to have their photo taken in front of the giant carrot.

For our Ohakune Day we had many things organised to entertain our residents. At lunch, a quiz and 'make a carrot man challenge' was on offer. The goal being for the carrot man to stand independently.

The residents had a wonderful time making and creating and then got to enjoy lunch with a fresh glass of carrot juice.

After lunch the resthome residents kept themselves busy making carrot cake muffins. This was a lot of fun with some grating, measuring, mixing and sorting the muffin papers and trays.

The muffins tasted great and were served for morning tea the following day covered in thick cream cheese icing. The residents of our resthome love baking and many fond memories are shared during these baking sessions.
