“Love?”, came this wee voice. "Hello Pat, how can I help you?"
Pat wanted to make some scones, some sultana scones. "Of course" I said. "I think that will be great!"
Pat smiled and became very excited about the idea of being able to make scones again. She said it’d been years since she'd made scones.
We went to the kitchen, gathered our ingredients and brought it back to the special care unit to mix. Pat had a table set up in the lounge where she mixed the ingredients in front of the residents.
While this was taking place, the residents were asking Pat questions.
"Are you a good scone maker? What about cheese scones?" Pat answered, but you could see she was becoming a little nervous. I told Pat she was doing a great job which appeared to settle her nerves.
We then went down to the kitchen and baked the scones. While we were waiting, Pat said, "I’m very nervous, do you think they will be nice? I hope they will be."
I reassured Pat, and told her that they would be delicious! Once cooked, we brought them back to the residents.
Pat put lashings of butter and jam on the scones and was very happy with how they turned out.
Everyone complimented her on the yummy scones! Pat is already planning her next baking episode!
