Rowena Jackson Retirement Village Spring Bulb Growing Competition

Spring came early at Rowena Jackson Retirement Village when we  held our Spring Bulb Growing Competition.

It sounded so easy to all of those who purchased bulbs - all we had to do was let them grow and turn up with them flowering on the day to collect our prizes! Easier said than done! Some indoor areas were so warm that the bulbs started flowering weeks before the competition day!! More experienced gardeners placed them outside …... but those who left them out had them flowering too late.! A wide range of offerings arrived for the competition!

Mrs Diack from Diacks Nurseries judged the wide range of bulbs. Prizes were given to the deadest foliage, the longest foliage, the biggest flower, the strangest and of course the best overall bloom which was won by Cate Curtis. A fun afternoon for all residents who attended with suitably embarrassed bad gardeners having to claim prizes.
