Hello, our names are Lyn and Murray Dear. We met while working together at the ANZ Bank, Auckland South Area Branch in 1976 and married in 1977. Murray was transferred to Palmerston North in 1984 and Lyn gave up part time work to play lawn bowls. After serving as Huntly Branch Manager, Murray was appointed Manager of Chartwell branch in 1993.
In 1986 Murray was diagnosed with late onset Type 1 diabetes. Upon retirement, Murray joined the committee of the Waikato Diabetes Society. Following service as the Society President, Murray served on the Board of Diabetes New Zealand including three years as National President. He is currently the Waikato Branch President and a member of the national Advisory Council. For his work in helping people affected by diabetes, Murray was awarded a Hamilton City Civic Award by Mayor Julie Hardaker in December 2013.
I was diagnosed with myotonic muscular dystrophy in 2011 and last year we moved into our townhouse at Hilda Ross. We are now well settled and enjoying village life.
Last year Murray skipped the Hilda Ross lawn bowls team which won the Ryman Healthcare Mixed Fours Tournament at Edmund Hillary village. As a member of the winning team, he recently played in the Ryman Healthcare sponsored Glen Waverley Bowls Club Christmas Carnival in Melbourne.
