A visit from Megan and Pip!

Pip is the first diabetes assistance dog to work in a public hospital with his owner a Dunedin Nurse Brenda Ferguson.

He is a two – year old black Labrador who has been specially trained to help people with diabetes.

He can tell (through his sense of smell) when Brenda’s blood sugars are low and can alert her to do something about it.

He has been trained to fetch the phone, bring her the blood testing kit, open the fridge and give her sweetened cordial.

He is one very talented dog.

Resident Lola McMillan initiated fundraising at the village to contribute towards the cost of buying Pip and presented these to Megan and Pip following a presentation.
