Frances Hodgkins Retirement Village - Meet Pat Ellison

Hello, my name is Pat Ellison. I was born in Invercargill and came to live in Dunedin in 1937. I made my home in the Caversham area at Lisburn House. I worked as a ledger keeper for Mercer and Mitchell and spent a lot of my leisure time biking out to the St Clair saltwater pool and quickly became a member. A committee was formed to upgrade and heat the pool and I became the secretary treasurer.

I met my late husband Gilbert through the St Clair Surf Club and it quickly became a very important part of our lives. Our two children Noel and Rhonda competed at National level, I was a coach and later became a life member of the St Clair club and the Otago Surf Lifesaving Association. I was presented with an MBE and lifeguard hall of fame. I was the first women to be elected a life member of the surf life saving association.

Moving into Frances Hodgkins was a great move for me, to be close by the area where I spent most of my youth.
