Dot Meares, Joan Rolton and Don Williams, along with six other residents from Woodcote grabbed the sunhats (and warm coat – just in case a change in weather) and headed for a days outing to Caroline Bay in Timaru. The town is ‘buzzing’ at New Year with the Caroline Bay Carnival. Now celebrating it’s 102nd year. The day was fine and warm and all thoroughly enjoyed a scrumptious fish’n chip lunch and a wander around the carnival and musical entertainment in the famous sound shell. Afternoon tea and ice creams were a treat. Before heading back to Christchurch a trip around the Port of Timaru found the close viewing of a ship putting out to sea very interesting with assured nudges in the right direction from tug boats and the pilot boat in attendance. A tiki-tour around the town found all enjoying the viewing of the splendid Christmas decorations, which according to reports were over 30 years old. A leisurely drive back home and all agreed it had been a most enjoyable days outing.
