Royalty at Woodcote

Queen Elizabeth II and Kate, duchess of Cambridge, took time out from their busy schedule to visit Woodcote Retirement Village in Christchurch.

The residents sang happy birthday to the Queen and wished her many happy returns of the day.

The pair made an effort to chat with individual residents and Kate took it upon herself to serve the cucumber sandwiches at morning tea.

The Queen was more than happy to answer some of the resident’s questions. One such question was, “What do you carry in your handbag, your majesty?” upon which she turned things around and asked her audience to guess what they think might be in a Queen’s handbag. The correct answer was a couple of royal handkerchiefs and a hand full of minties.
