During the month of May, our village celebrated Ryman Healthcare’s sponsorship of the Royal New Zealand Ballet season of The Wizard of Oz with several themed events and activities.
We had a scarecrow in the garden, Dorothy and Toto in the poppy fields and in our reception area, as well as a balloon rainbow in the dining room.
Arts and craft included colouring the themed masks of the four main characters, cutting out silhouette figures of the Wicked Witch and her flying monkeys, decorating wooden shoes with red paint and glitter and making witches pointy hats.
The blokes from the Men's Club assembled our scarecrow and assisted with the making of the Tin Man.
Residents also made the most delicious rainbow sandwiches for afternoon tea.
Activities included making rainbow sandwiches, a red shoe day, a treasure hunt (for red shoes, of course) and a movie afternoon watching the classic movie featuring Judy Garland.
It also included a Wizard of Oz pub quiz and a full village themed dress-up extravaganza and happy hour.
