The residents enjoyed a full week of fun activities, healthy food and fascinating information. The week kicked off with a Dietician as the guest speaker and then they were rewarded with a craft afternoon of fruit salad kebabs which they described as “delicious”. On Tuesday morning we selected some of the residents and took them for a walk at the Botanical Gardens, where we took many beautiful images with mother nature. On Wednesday the residents were very lucky and were delighted to know that they had a former All black sevens representative in Jason Tiatia. Jason shared his stories of hard work and the benefits of being healthy and active. Victor Chang a physiotherapists was the guest speaker on Thursday morning, where he explained the preventions of falls and the risks of arthritis. The residents found the information surprisingly interesting and therefore all wanted a copy of the information to take home. Zumba followed in the afternoon and they loved it as it was there first time having this experience. Once the music played they got straight up and got into it. Healthy housie ended this great week off and followed with a guest speaker from ACC and they thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Active Ageing Week was a favourite for many of the residents which put a smile on their faces and they wanted this event to occur many more times in the future. They loved every bit of it and I’m sure it was all beneficial for the residents and staff, as they were surprised to know the answer for it all was “healthy exercise”.
