Everyone loves Opera!

Diana Isaac residents flocked to their village centre for a special concert organised by two of the village's opera fans.

Residents Ellen Henke and Cath Stowell teamed up to suggest a concert by The Opera Club – a group of Christchurch performers who got together after the earthquakes to make sure that opera continued to thrive in the city.

The four performers – Sarah-Jane Rennie, Rachel Doig, Erin Callanan and Julian Anderson – sung a selection including pieces by Puccini, Gershwin, and Rogers and Hammerstein.

They brought the house down – and tears to many eyes – with their rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone from Rogers and Hammerstein's Carousel.

They were accompanied by Sydney-based artistic director Sharolyn Kimmorley who is a voice coach as well as an accomplished pianist.

Ellen and Cath hope other Ryman villages will follow suit with Opera Club performances.

Judging by the first event, they will have a hit on their hands!
