Ryman Races

Ryman Races is the brainchild of Gay Toth, an activities co-ordinator at Anthony Wilding Retirement Village.

Gay spotted the idea in a book, but adapted and refined it to make a game that Ryman residents in care could use as part of the Engage programme. She won the annual Ryman Innovation award with the idea.

Ryman Races consists of six wooden horses on the end of long strings attached to reels, and residents wind the reels in as fast as possible to get their horse to win. The races not only encourage dexterity and coordination, they also foster competition and a sense of fun for residents.
