Our annual New Zealand and Melbourne Cup Day events at Anthony Wilding were well attended by staff, residents and family members. The lounges were decked out in lively race day styled decorations.
Everyone joined in the race day festivities by dressing up in fun and classy race day attire such as beautifully decorated hats donned with flowers and feathers, and some of the men wore fedoras. Staff assisted with games, serving food, drinks and taking photos. They also assisted in the hat making with our residents and served at the champagne breakfast in the serviced apartments. Champagne and orange juice filled the glasses and prizes for the best dressed were presented.
The hospital lounges joined forces on the Melbourne Cup Day to prepare and decorate hats for the upcoming fun and games. The residents were served delicious asparagus rolls and dainty muffins that had been carefully decorated with a variety of coloured icings and delicately crafted icing miniature horse shoes.
Residents and staff discussed and recalled their favorite memories of going to the races at Addington Raceway and what they wore for the occasion. Later in the afternoon they were entertained with a film about the famous New Zealand racing horse Phar Lap.
