Hello, our names are Ken and Anice Holmes and we are moving to Bruce McLaren village in November. Currently we live only a five minute walk away which is great because we have good friends in this area and feel comfortable here. We wanted to move to a retirement village while we still had good health and plenty of outside interests, and we look forward to making new friends at Bruce McLaren.
We were married 51 years ago in Lower Hutt and lived in Christchurch for five years before moving to Auckland. We lived in Pakuranga and Bucklands Beach before settling five years ago in Northpark. We have three children (one deceased) and five grandchildren plus one great granddaughter. We love watching the grandchildren play sport, it’s an important part of our life these days. The weekends vary from tennis, cricket, soccer, hockey and athletics to rugby, netball and equestrian.
I have been an active Rotarian for 41 years and was Pakuranga Rotary club president in 1984/85 and have chartered two other Rotary clubs. I enjoy supporting the Blues, reading, chess, playing favourite tunes on my piano, and recently retired from the Howick Brass Band after playing bass trombone there for 21 years. I am also a registered Justice of the Peace and am on the active JP roster providing service to the public on Thursday evenings at the Howick Information Centre.
Anice retired some years ago from a retail career, and she enjoys cross stitch and is a volunteer at the Howick Save the Children shop. She plays Mah Jong and is an active knitter supporting the Middlemore Foundation. Anice is also a volunteer reading helper for children at a low decile primary school, and is a long standing member of the Howick Inner Wheel club.
We signed up for Bruce McLaren after our research confirmed the high standing of the Ryman Group. When some friends showed us through their lovely apartment at Ryman’s Edmund Hillary village we were convinced that Ryman was the right choice for us. We are really looking forward to joining the Bruce McLaren community.
