Ryman’s Dr David Kerr is New Zealand’s Chairman of the Year
Dr David Kerr, chairman of Ryman Healthcare, has been named Chairman of the Year in the 2013 Deloitte/Management magazine Top 200 Awards.
Dr Kerr has served on Ryman’s board since 1994 and has been its chairman since 1999.
Dr Kerr said he was delighted to win the award.
“I think it is another acknowledgement of how the company has gone. I’m lucky to chair a great company.’’
Dr Kerr said he had benefited from working with a board and a senior management team who had always worked tightly together.
Dr Kerr is a Christchurch GP and was founding chairman of Pegasus Medical Group. He is also a fellow and Past President of the New Zealand Medical Association and has been awarded a fellowship with Distinction by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. He is also a director of Pharmac Ltd.
His success follows Ryman Healthcare’s win last year, taking out the Company of the Year in the Top 200 awards for 2012.
Ryman managing director Simon Challies was also a finalist in this year’s award in the Executive of the Year category.
Mr Challies said Dr Kerr’s recognition was well deserved.
“He’s been a steady hand at the tiller for a long time and a key part of our success.’’
Ryman was founded in 1984 and has grown steadily to become one of New Zealand’s largest listed companies.
The company currently owns 26 villages and serves over 7,000 residents in New Zealand. Each village offers a combination of retirement living and aged care.
