Sun and sea views enjoyed in Figaro

Elizabeth was born and grew up in Khandallah and has lived there most of her life.

She recently moved into her newly built Figaro apartment at Malvina Major Retirement Village which she is calmly transforming into her new home.

Elizabeth had first-hand knowledge of Malvina Major after her husband was admitted to the hospital. “I was very keen for him to come here as I lived in Khandallah. After visiting twice daily I thought, ‘why not move in too?’
When I made enquiries there were only 14 of 47 units available.”

Elizabeth didn’t hesitate. She made an overnight decision and chose her new home from the plans. She opted for the morning sun and the sea view on the top level. “I thought if I was going to do it, I was going to do it now when I could get a brand-new apartment. Being on the top floor, it’s like the penthouse with the view.

“I like the private balcony and the doors opening from the bedroom to the balcony. I’ve chosen furniture to fit the apartment with lots of ideas and suggestions from family about colour and style.

“I’ve bought everything new to suit me." But one treasure that was never going to be left behind was her beloved piano. “Nothing else mattered,” she said with conviction.

Elizabeth had a great deal to sort through before moving in and she used her time as the building progressed, downsizing her belongings and deciding what to bring with her. “That time meant I could get my head around what I wanted in the apartment.”

During this time Elizabeth has come to various activities, information gatherings and meet the neighbour’s functions hosted by the village. The swimming pool, the spa and the village café were all big attractions for her.

“There is so much available,” she said, “I’ve used the library already, but I’ll still keep up all my other activities.”

“I knew the village and knew it was well run.”

She is delighted with the fixed weekly fee for her apartment, which offers security and peace of mind for residents. “Insurance had gone up hugely on my other house and here my weekly fee is fixed."

“It has a lovely feeling of spaciousness and I like the high ceilings. The design, the finishing and painting are really well done.

"The sun comes in in the morning and the paper comes to my door!”. There are lots of places to go in the village for the afternoon sun, but in the morning, you can sit and have a coffee on the balcony.

“I’ve still got a few things to sort out and I need to put my artwork up."

She knows a lot of people in the village already and is looking forward to meeting more. “People here are young at heart, that’s what matters.

"I think I’ll be really really happy here."
