Covid-19 update for residents and their families who live outside of Auckland

The Government has extended its COVID-19 Alert Level 2 for New Zealand, outside of Auckland, until August 26.

This is not unexpected news, and, given the levels of community transmission in Auckland, we think it is the right thing to do.

We’ve done this before, and we can do it again!

Just a reminder about the key points about Level 2 for you:

For care residents and families:

We have more than 3,000 residents in care and they are the most vulnerable to COVID-19, so we have shut our care centres to outside visitors.

Family visits for palliative or end-of-life care will continue to be allowed.

Anyone visiting on this basis will be required to follow our strict infection control protocols, sign a health declaration, have their temperature taken on entry and wear PPE.

Our staff will continue to declare their health status, wear masks, have their temperatures checked each day and follow strict infection control practices.

They will be going the extra mile to keep residents safe and comfortable, and you can contact the village to arrange Zoom meetings if you wish.

There is a Zoom device in every room, and we will be happy to arrange a call.

For serviced apartment residents:

Visits to serviced apartment residents in our villages are restricted for the moment because of their proximity to the care centres.

We can arrange Zoom calls to keep you in touch, grocery deliveries can be dropped to the village and meal services continue.

For independent residents:

As part of the Level 2 restrictions we have suspended all village activities, including Triple A, morning and afternoon teas and Happy Hours, for the moment.

Our hair and beauty salons are also closed.

We will keep you posted on when these can be restarted.

It is recommended that your practise social distancing and wear a face mask if you can when you are out. We have good supplies of masks, just ask at reception if you need one.

We encourage you to keep a log of where you go and to use the Government’s COVID-19 Tracer app if you can.

Please keep in touch

We know everyone’s situation is different, and if you have any questions about any challenges you or a family member is facing, please talk to your village manager.

If you are concerned for the welfare of any of our residents, or you think they could do with a friendly call or visit from a member of our team, please do not hesitate to get in touch with either your village manager or our support team on residentsupport@rymanhealthcare.com

Any resident who needs counselling is welcome to call our OCP service on 0800 377 990.

For more general inquiries you can call 0800 588 22 or email residentsupport@rymanhealthcare.com

Stay safe and thanks once again for your time.

We will update you again next week.

COVID-19 symptoms

We know you’ve probably seen this before, but a reminder that the symptoms to watch out for include:

  • a cough
  • a high temperature (at least 37.5˚C)
  • shortness of breath
  • a sore throat
  • sneezing and runny nose
  • temporary loss of smell
  • conjunctivitis

If you have any of these symptoms contact your GP or call Healthline on 0800 358 5453.

Please make sure you get tested for COVID-19 if your GP recommends it.

Keeping safe

Our best defence against COVID-19 is personal hygiene, including regular and thorough hand washing.

Viruses such as COVID-19 and the flu are easily spread by close contact with people who have symptoms. You may also get infected if you touch surfaces or objects with droplets and then touch your mouth, nose or eyes.

That’s why it’s important to use good hand hygiene, practise physical distancing if you don’t know someone and stay home if you’re unwell.

This includes regularly washing and drying your hands and coughing or sneezing into a disposable tissue or into your elbow.
