2020 Grace Oddity

(An ode to the charity work done by the United Kingdom’s Captain Tom Moore, a 100-year-old who walked to fundraise for the NHS. To be sung to the tune of David Bowie’s Space Oddity)

Found a Soul in Captain Tom
Found a Soul in Captain Tom

Took his protein pills, and put his warm hat on
Found a soul in Captain Tom
With steady strides he walks along
His bright example spurs us on

We have Found a Soul in Captain Tom
He's really made our day
And the press all want to know how much he has made
As he strolls round his back-yard still on parade

What's that Captain Tom, from sound control?
You're stepping through the door
To start walking in a most determined way
All the other stars look secondary today
For they're all just walking in his shadow
While he is leading us the way
All around the sun
People feel the fun

Though you are one hundred years of age
And feeling very thrilled
You just say your walker knows which way to go

We told your wife you'd soon be in for lunch
She knew

Found a Soul to Captain Tom
Our phones gone dead
We think there's something wrong

Can you hear us Captain Tom
Can you hear us Captain Tom
Can you hear us Captain Tom
Can you…

Here you are, walking in your back-yard This, tells us something true
Corovirus is not the flu
And there's plenty we can do!
