Ryman Healthcare COVID Auckland update - 4 October

Dear residents and family members,

The Government has announced that the Auckland region is to remain in Level 3 but with some new perks to be introduced from 11.59pm on Tuesday 5 October.

These include meeting with another household in an outdoor area and more freedom to move around the Auckland region. Please see below for more details.

This will be reviewed on Monday 11 October before the next phase of freedoms are given the green light.

These changes will be welcomed by many of you but as always we will be taking an extremely cautious approach when applying these measures to our village, given that the Delta variant is still very much within our community.

We will still be making the usual grocery deliveries, Happy Hour in a Bag and we have got more fantastic speakers lined up to keep you entertained. This week we’ve got art, exercise and ancestry on the agenda.

Just a note before we move onto the updates, we encourage you to get in touch if you need any help, no matter how big or small the issue.

Alert Level 3, Phase 1: The key points

Our village care centres remain closed to visitors. The only exceptions are visits by our village residents to their spouses in our care centres and visits to residents in end-of-life or palliative care. If you wish to arrange a visit under these circumstances, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

As part of the new freedoms, residents may wish to meet with another bubble within the village in an outdoor setting. Alternatively, you may wish to meet with family members but in that case we ask that meetings are off site from the village and, as stipulated by the Government, are outdoors, to take advantage of the natural ventilation that brings.

No more than two household bubbles should mingle and with no more than 10 people. As well as remaining in an outdoor setting, mask wearing and social distancing should still be adhered to.

With the temperatures warming up, you now have the opportunity to take a trip to the beach a bit further afield but still within the Auckland region.

Relatives are still welcome to drop any essential supplies to our village gates – and we will make sure they are delivered. Please label them clearly so our team can get them to their rightful owners.

Our teams are keeping our residents safe and entertained, and Zoom calls are available as an extra option for families to keep in touch.

Social distancing and masks

Just a reminder that, at Alert Level 3, residents are required to maintain social distance from other people not in your bubble. You are encouraged to stay in your bubble.

Residents are also asked to wear a face mask when outside of home and to ensure it is on correctly, covering mouths and noses.

Please use the COVID-19 Tracer App and get tested if anyone has any symptoms.

What’s on this week

Our serviced apartment and independent residents will receive their usual milk, bread and biscuit deliveries as well as their usual Happy Hour in a Bag.

What’s on this week

We have three exciting events lined up for you this week on Zoom.

Tuesday:

On Tuesday October 5 at 2pm we have a wellness workshop for you focusing on exercise and movement.

This is designed for everyone and is based on the compelling evidence that shows the more you can keep moving, the healthier you will be in later life.

Wednesday:

Join us on Wednesday October 6 at 10.30am for a morning with TV ancestry investigator David Lomas. He’ll give you lots of tips and tricks about how to investigate your ancestors – you never know what you’ll find!

Thursday:

On Thursday October 7 at 1pm get ready to unleash your inner artist at out Learn to Sketch class. Your host Kimbra will take you through a step-by-step guide to sketching – all you need is paper and a pencil or pen to get going with.

The Student Volunteer Army Service

The Student Volunteer Army (SVA) has set up a priority grocery delivery service for Ryman residents.

Payment is via credit or debit card using a secure system.

A volunteer will physically shop for you from the nearest New World supermarket and deliver to your village, contact-free.

Ryman residents will receive priority delivery, usually the following day provided they order by 4pm by calling 0800 005 902 or by going online at www.shop.sva.org.nz

Just let them know you are from a Ryman village or select Ryman Healthcare Village Resident or Staff in the online menu and they will deliver for a $3 charge to cover the cost of bags.

We expect that most residents will have essential supplies of medications and food – or have arranged orders for delivery.

In the meantime, if anyone has an URGENT need for support to arrange essential supplies, please don’t hesitate to contact the village team.

Hospital visits and returns

Auckland has COVID-19 positive cases being cared for in North Shore, Middlemore, and Auckland City hospitals.

We have decided to take an extra cautious approach and regard these hospitals as having a high risk than other places in New Zealand right now. For residents this means:

  • All care centre and serviced apartment residents who attend an Emergency Department or stay in hospital will require the FULL 14-day isolation upon return and COVID tests at day 5 and day 12.
  • Independent residents are asked to let the village team know if they have been to hospital for any reason so that we can assess risk on a case by case basis and advise on any requirements for isolation and testing.

Any residents asked to isolate are still able to go for fresh air and exercise as long as they wear a mask and maintain social distance.

If you need counselling, or you are worried about someone who might be struggling, you are welcome to call our OCP service on 0800 377 990. Just let them know you are a Ryman resident or relative and where you are based.

COVID-19 symptoms

Symptoms to watch out for include:

  • a cough
  • a high temperature (at least 37.5˚C)
  • shortness of breath
  • a sore throat
  • sneezing and runny nose
  • temporary loss of smell and taste
  • conjunctivitis
  • muscle aches
  • headaches

If you have any of these symptoms contact your GP or call Healthline on 0800 358 5453.

Please make sure you get tested for COVID-19 if your GP recommends it.
