Jane Mander Retirement Village Dame Malvina Major Concert

Residents and visitors alike spent a magical musical afternoon with Dame Malvina Major and friends recently at the Jane Mander Retirement Village.

Dame Malvina presented a wonderful programme which included solos featuring her beautiful coloratura soprano voice. She also teamed with well-known local musical group "Opera North" under the baton of Joan Kennaway; as well as singing a duet with rising star Pene Pati a tenor with a stunning voice and a marvellous personality.

A highlight of the afternoon for many was the appearance of talented young musicians, Ngaruaroha, Xena and Maia-Dean Martin; three local girls whose ability with their violins and cello astounded the audience of 120.

At the end of the programme, folk spent a convivial hour or so with a glass of wine and some delicious nibbles chatting with Dame Malvina Major and the other performers - a fitting end to a splendid occasion which also raised over $3000 for the Dame Malvina Major Foundation for rising musical talent.
