Hilda Ross was elected to the Hamilton Hospital Board in 1947. A Registered Nurse, she soon became the first woman Borough Councillor. In 1945, she was elected to Parliament β holding her seat for the remainder of her life. She was Minister for Welfare of Women and Children and represented New Zealand at the United Nations Commission on the status of Women.
