John Key followed the tradition of Helen Clark by making Hilda Ross Retirement Village the first stop on his tour of Hamilton. His visit to Hilda Ross Retirement Village was the highlight of our residents' week. Residents gathered in the Community Centre to await the Prime Minister's arrival and were entertained by The Glee Club with a medley of songs.
John Key arrived together with the Waikato Members of Parliament, David Bennett and Tim McIndoe. He gave a short entertaining speech followed by a short question and answer session. From the Community Centre he visited the newly opened hospital and special care unit. On his whirlwind visit he took every opportunity to shake hands and provide photo opportunities. As he passed through the hospital, a group of residents were playing quoits. John Key jumped in and had a brief quoit throwing competition, urging David Bennett and Tim McIndoe to join in. He left with at least one Resthome resident treasuring her moment of meeting the Prime Minister.
