The Hilda Ross bus and two vans headed out on a wet and windy Waikato morning, with 32 residents on board, bound for Cambridge.
First stop was NZ Alpacas on the main road at Karapiro. The visit was enjoyed by all the residents, a particular highlight being able to be really close to an adult male Alpaca and a couple of babies. After morning tea, Chris gave a very informative PowerPoint session with all we could ever imagine we would dawn to know about Alpacas and more. The calm, placid nature of Alpacas was demonstrated by bringing an adult male and two babies into the room with the residents and moving them between the rows so that each resident could touch and stroke their soft coats.
We look forward to a return visit when a couple of Alpacas will be able to visit us in the Resthome. Our day was completed by a visit to the Stables Restaurant in Cambridge. The residents enjoyed a good lunch.
A very tried but happy group of residents returned home late in the afternoon, with much to talk about. Lots of sharing of the ‘facts’ learnt about Alpacas could be heard for a while after our visit.
