Woodcote Tribute to Liz Barrie

A woman we admire and respect is going to leave us. She will step out from the every day working world into one of un-hurried, relaxing, enjoyable retirement.

We are going to miss her. Staff, residents, doctors, social workers and trades people alike will no longer see her warm smile, or hear her infectious laugh (oh how we love that joyful laughter) or be impressed by her steady calm manner in situations of urgency. We are going to miss the wonderful sense of character that allowed her to be at various times, "Boss" "Friend" and 'Mentor'.

Yes, Liz Barrie is hanging up her stethoscope and blood pressure kit and saying 'farewell' to Woodcote after 16 years as Nurse Manager. Our Liz is retiring. The garden parties, the summer BBQ's, the functions for every occasion and season will no longer have that distinctive 'touch of class' that only Liz could bring to these events. Remember the attractive, decorative, colourful table settings at Christmas, Valentines Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, to name but a few. Children's parties – now there's a party that nobody else could do better!

She was also a dab hand at taking over in the kitchen if the Woodcote Chef became ill or indisposed at short notice. It was also not unusual to see the Nurse Manager emerge from a steamy shower room after filling in as a caregiver in an emergency!

Yes Liz, we are definitely going to miss you and each and everyone of us wishes you all the very best for your retirement years ahead. We also know that we are all the more enriched for having had you in our lives and we 'Thank You' for your generosity of spirit and sparkling good humour .... GOODBYE and GOOD LUCK from all residents and staff at Woodcote Retirement Village.
