Recently Grace Joel Retirement Village in association with Auckland East Arts Council hosted their annual Artshowcase at Grace Joel. The cocktail function to officially open the showcase was a fabulous evening with Ngahiraka Mason formally opening it. Ngahiraka is the indigenous curator of art at the Auckland Art Gallery. This night was a great way to open such a wonderful exhibition with delicious food and drinks served and magnificent art on display.
The Artshowcase was open to the public on Saturday and Sunday with over 750 interested visitors throughout the weekend to view the works of art. Many residents, friends of the village and visitors commented on how the art keeps getting better every year! Penny Otto, our guest artist, had some fantastic abstract artworks showing large brightly coloured works, she sold three paintings throughout the weekend and the Auckland East Arts Council sold a total of 25. There was a fabulous morning and afternoon tea provided both on the Saturday and the Sunday, with people raving about the delicious food and many commenting how lovely the community at Grace Joel Retirement Village is.
This was a great Artshowcase and we cannot wait for the next one!
“Its good because I can still have my lifestyle, I play golf still – belong to other things, but to know those activities are there is great, and also, one of the main things was the ongoing care.”
