The highlight of this season has been taking part in the Johnsonville Bowling Club Community Bowls, held on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7.30 followed by a barbeque. Playing from January until mid March, the 32 teams of four players, mostly newcomers to the game, get the feel of the fun and not too serious competition, in a game made famous when Drake was waiting for the Amarda.
A different four is arranged each week allowing eight players to participate in the first four evenings. From eight games we have had 5 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses and are well in the running for a trophy sponsored by Malvina Major Village.
In addition to upgrading the green and presenting two sets of new bowls and other equipment, players have also greatly appreciated receiving T-Shirts printed with the Village logo. The next event is a visit from Shona McFarlane Village Bowlers later in March.
“Our village is home to us all. I need to live here much, much longer. I’m having so much fun!”
